When you make your own website, you can get yourself or your business promoted. Having a stellar website invites customers, attracts new business and announces that you are serious about pleasing visitors. You must learn the different techniques and all about efficient design, so keep reading through the following tips and advice.
Don’t use OnExit popups on your website. This tactic is mainly used by internet marketers who are trying a last-ditch attempt to get a sale. Word about these kinds of popups get around, and they will kill your reputation as a marketer. Mozilla has even taken steps to suppress the text on these popups, citing security risks.
Does your site pass the NoScript test? The NoScript extension that is available for Firefox can be used to see if the site can still be read. Some stuff won’t work unless there are scripts.
Make certain that visitors have a way to search for a particular topic on your site. If people visit your site for something specific, they will be on the lookout for a search box. Without this tool, the visitor might leave and go searching on another website. Make sure your search box is visible. The right hand side of the page, at the top, is the best location.
Make sure that you use the right anchor text. The anchor text of a link should clearly describe what the visitor should expect to see when he clicks on the link. For instance, if a link leads to your widget ordering page, the anchor text might read “Order widgets.” Specifically avoid using “click here” as anchor text.
Test your website before it goes live. There’s nothing worse then launching your new website and having to take it down right away due to bugs or other issues. Get a group of people together who are using different web browsers and computer platforms, and ask them to use a beta version of your website, writing down any issues they come across.
A search function should always be included when you develop a site that is very large. The best place to put your search text box is in the top right hand corner as that is where the bulk of websites put theirs. You can use Google search or FreeFind, as they both give you access to an engine which is free and simple to use.
Don’t add any pop-ups to your site. You’ll only annoy your visitors with this type of content, regardless of how important the information in the pop-up windows is. When you add pop-up windows to your website, you run the risk of frustrating people to the point that they won’t come back.
It is imperative that all of your webpages have titles. Forgetting to include titles while designing your website can have disastrous consequences. The biggest reason is that it makes your website look unprofessional when there is no title, both on the webpage itself, and also on a search results page. Search engines also place heavy emphasis on titles when determining the content of your website. Remember to utilize keywords, and make your titles descriptive.
Once you figure out the basics behind building a website, you can then turn your attention to design. Use what you have learned here to help you as you create your layout, build up your navigation, and create content your readers will love. With enough traffic, your financial goals are within reach.
